Results: What should I work on next?
The Results
Here are the results of the latest poll on where I should focus my modding time in the near future, with 345 players responding:
The majority of players want me to keep improving Tall Worlds Mod. Apparently Tall Worlds has become my most popular mod in a very short amount of time. However, Ships Mod is not far behind, with loyals fans showing their support for my flagship mod (pun most definitely intended).
Oddly enough, there is more support than I expected for my new mod loader, M3L, despite it being somewhat of a behind-the-scenes tool for modders rather than players. Maybe many of the players of modded Minecraft are actually modders themselves? Or perhaps players just want to see a larger ecosystem in which to play Tall Worlds, since it's currently completely incompatible with literally every single other mod. =P
What do players want for Ships Mod?
Of those players voting for more work on Ships Mod, there is no clear preference for fixes vs new features. I guess that means Ships Mod still has a lot of work to do to get the existing features working well.
Here's what I'll do
DO ALL THE EVERYTHINGS AT ONCE! @_@
Haha, just kidding. If I try to do enything at once, I won't get any single thing done.
Instead, how about I spend some time to make one release for each project in turn. The size of the release will proportional to the popularity of that project:
- Release quick update for Ships Mod addressing a few bugs and outstanding issues
- Work on a substantial update for Tall Worlds Mod focusing on stability and bug fixes.
- Implement a simple block registration API (e.g., the Forge API) for M3L
That way, I don't completely abandon my loyal Ships Mod fans, but I also continue to make progress on Tall Worlds, whose popularity is quickly rising.
I've updated the Progress page with the new goals, so check back there for udpates. Following me on Twitter is also a good way to stay up-to-date.
